Unofficial Cycle Routes - Glasgow West End to Springburn and Bishopbriggs

Website by Andy Preece

This route heads north from Byres Road, past Ruchill Park and then either to Springburn or over to Bishopbriggs.

Glasgow's shortest cycle lane

Starting in Byres Road, head north into Queen Margaret Drive. Carry straight on into Bilsland Drive, go under the canal bridge, and continue past Ruchill Park. Cross Balmore Road and go into Hawthorn Street.

To get to Springburn, continue straight along this road, passing Glasgow's shortest cycle lane en route. Once in Springburn, you can follow the unofficial cycle route to Germiston and Dennistoun.

To get to Bishopbriggs, turn left at the next traffic signals on Hawthorn Street into Ashfield Street. Go up Ashfield Street, past Ashfield Station, then down to the Ashgill Road junction. Turn right onto Ashgill Road and follow it round, until the Colston Road junction. For eastern Bishopbriggs turn right along Colston Road and fork left at the mini-roundabout into Auchinairn Road. First left leads to Bishopbriggs Town Centre or straight on for Auchinairn. For western Bishopbriggs carry straight on along Ashgill Road until the road takes a left bend into Scaraway Street. Take the path on the right-hand side of the road at this corner which leads through to Duncryne Place in Bishopbriggs. Follow this road out to the main road, but turn left into Brackenbrae Road just before the main road junction. This road leads at its very end to a small park around a stream. Proceed cautiously down and up the path that crosses the stream and climb the hill to end up at Keir Drive.

To get to Bishopbriggs Sports Centre and the Forth & Clyde Canal, take Keir Drive and turn left into Balmuildy Road. (This road can be quite busy at times with school traffic.) Turn left at the point where Balmuildy Road turns left and the canal bridge is a short distance beyond. Turn left for Glasgow or right for Kirkintilloch and Falkirk via the canal.
