Abandoned Escalators & Subways

Here is a special miscellaneous feature on Abandoned Escalators & Subways in Leeds.

Leeds once called itself the "motorway city of the seventies". Lots of new urban motorways and other main roads were built, and pedestrians were sent burrowing into the ground to use subways.

Now in more enlightened times, pedestrians are returning to the surface, the subways are being closed off, and the escalators that fed the subways have become derelict.

The subways, which pedestrians rightly found scary and unsafe, are now being blocked off, with pedestrians getting proper road crossings on the surface.

Instead, the space is used to store council materials, but it too will rot away, since the drainage is blocked and the subway is flooding.

The subway is now used as a council store
