Shown here are both official and unofficial cycle routes to the North West of Glasgow, along with some other suggested links.
NB: Not to scale.
The National Cycle Network Route 7 runs through this area, running between Glasgow, Dumbarton, Balloch and Aberfoyle. This route continues northwards to the Highlands. The route comprises a mixture of disused railway lines and minor roads.
The Forth & Clyde Canal crosses this area, running between Bowling and Glasgow. In Maryhill, there is a junction in the canal with a branch heading towards Glasgow City Centre and the main canal heading back into the countryside to reach Kirkintilloch, Falkirk and Grangemouth.
A small network is being developed in the Helensburgh area, with routes on Loch Lomondside and Garelochside, another over the hill to connect these two, and plans for a Clydeside route that will link to Dumbarton.
