This route heads north from Milngavie, up through Mugdock Village and then down into Strathblane. To get to Milngavie from the south follow the unofficial cycle routes from the Renfrew Ferry or Anniesland.
Coming from the south, enter Milngavie through Hillfoot, where there are cycle lanes on the main road, the A81. At the roundabout where the A81 forks right, go straight on, following the cycle lanes. At the town centre (old shops in the precinct on the left, a large supermarket and Milngavie Station on the right) turn left at the traffic signals up a minor road, Ellangowan Road, which goes under a bridge under the precinct. Carry on along this road, leaving the town and passing the reservoir. The next section has a really steep hill. (If coming from the Strathblane direction, take great care on this hill, especially at the hair-pin bend.) Go up the hill, turning right at the hair-pin bend and keep climbing until you reach Mugdock Village.
Go straight on at the junction in the village and fork right at the junction just to the north. This road goes downhill into Strathblane and is also quite steep. Turn right at the end and then left onto the main road, the A81. Go straight on for Blanefield or turn right along the A891 for the Strathkelvin Railway Path and unofficial cycle route to Lennoxtown, Kirkintilloch and Coatbridge. The steps leading to the path are on the right a short distance after the main road junction.
