Unofficial Cycle Routes - Newton Mearns to Dunlop

Website by Andy Preece

This route connects Newton Mearns to Neilston, following the East Renfrewshire Council cycle lanes out of Newton Mearns, continuing via quiet country lanes to get to Neilston, then uses a lightly used main road to get to Dunlop.

Head south along Ayr Road through Mearns Cross, having followed the East Renfrewshire Council cycle route from Thornliebank or Eastwood Toll, and follow the cycle lanes until they end at the edge of the town. Go straight on at the junction with the A77, watching out for motor traffic turning left. Take the first right after the M77 bridge, carry on until the end of this road, then turn left onto the B769. Take the first right, Craigton Road, and follow it for about two miles, passing Walton Dam on the way, then turn left at the junction near Dyke.

This road leads to Neilston. On arrival in the village, turn right for the station, village centre and Barrhead, or left to head to Dunlop. The junction for Dunlop is signed, a right turn, several miles along this fairly straight but undulating road.
