This route starts at the Forth & Clyde Canal in Twechar and heads south east through Mollinsburn and Glenboig to Coatbridge and Drumpellier Country Park. See also the unofficial cycle route from Glasgow to Cumbernauld, Twechar and Kilsyth which intersects this route, as does the Coatbridge to Strathblane route.
From the Forth & Clyde Canal, head through Twechar village along the busy but narrow main road, and carry on towards Cumbernauld. At the B8048 junction turn left over the railway bridge and then immediately turn right to head towards Mollinsburn. After a lengthy stretch of straight road, turn right at two roundabouts, then follow the road left onto the bridge over the A80 dual carriageway. Follow the bend round to the left then right into Cumbernauld Road in Mollinsburn. Fork right in the village onto Airdrie Road and then turn right to follow the road southwards.
Turn right then left at two right-angled bends in the road in Annathill, then fork right to continue along Mollinsburn Road. Turn right immediately after the Greenfoot Level Crossing into New Road towards Glenboig. At the end of this road turn right into Glenboig, then turn left off of Main Street in the village onto a railway path that crosses the road just after the left bend. (Look for the Inchneuk Path sign on the right, the path to the left is rather overgrown and starts out next to a driveway.) Follow this rough path south under a railway bridge, and carry straight on to join a rough track just after the bridge. Carry straight on where this track reaches the proper road, alongside a level crossing, and carry on past the next bridge over a railway, and continue until the T-junction at the end of the road.
For Coatbridge turn left at the T-junction at the end of Wilton Street into Lomond Road. Continue straight on at the roundabout, into Blair Road. Continue straight on past Blairhill Station and the park, then turn left into King Street. Either continue straight along this road, or cross over to the parallel canal path on the right to reach the centre of Coatbridge. From Coatbridge, there is an unofficial cycle route to Strathclyde Park, via Calderbank.
For Drumpellier Country Park, turn left at the T-junction at the end of Wilton Street into Lomond Road, then turn right after the right-hand bend into Deveron Street. Turn left immediately into the local access side road of Lomond Road and follow it round to the right alongside the roundabout. Turn left across the main Townhead Road into Mosspark Road which leads into the park. To get to the Visitors' Centre, continue straight on off the end of the road and onto a rough path to the left of some football pitches, heading towards a railway bridge. At the end of this, turn right onto the park road and head away from the railway line. Continue along this road, passing a couple of junctions and laybys, then fork right to avoid a gate along a looping path. Rejoin the road after the gate and pass Lochend Loch to arrive at the Visitors' Centre. From Drumpellier, there is an unofficial cycle route into Glasgow, via Easterhouse.
