This route heads south from Springburn, through Dennistoun and Bridgeton, then crosses Glasgow Green and the River Clyde to reach Polmadie, Govanhill, Toryglen and the South Side. Not only does this route link to the Sustrans National Cycle Network, but it provides an east to south by-pass for the City Centre.
Starting from Hawthorn Street, which forms part of the unofficial cycle route from the West End, turn right into Balgrayhill Road. Take the first left into Wellfield Street and fork right into Haig Street. Carry on into Edgefauld Road and at the end turn left into Petershill Road. Take the first right into Hobden Street and follow the corners round, leading to Darnick Street. Go through the tunnel (bring your lights if you want) and follow the road out to the Royston Road traffic signals. Here at Germiston you cross the council Glasgow - Cumbernauld cycle route. Carry straight across into Seimens Street and go over the hill until you reach Blochairn Road. Diagonally across from the junction is a path that leads to a footbridge over the M8 motorway to take you to Dennistoun.
Descend from the footbridge into Sannox Gardens. You can head east through Alexandra Park on the unofficial cycle route to Coatbridge from here, but for Polmadie, turn right into Coventry Drive. At the traffic signals go straight on into the local road at the far side of the junction, crossing the pavement. Turn left into this road, Harcourt Drive, and follow it right into Roebank Street then turn left into Meadowpark Street. Turn first right into Ballindalloch Drive at the 'No Entry' signs then first left into Armadale Street. Cross Alexandra Parade and continue straight on. (In the opposite direction turn right from Armadale Street into Onslow Drive and first left into Meadowpark Street to follow the one-way system.) Carry straight across Duke Street into Whitevale Street and diagonally across Gallowgate into David Street. If heading for the People's Palace in Glasgow Green turn right into Crownpoint Road, then cross Abercromby Street diagonally into Stevenson Street before turning second left into Green Street from where Glasgow Green lies straight across the far side of London Road at Binnie Place. Otherwise for Bridgeton Cross and Toryglen, carry straight on into Broad Street, follow this street round to the right and turn left at the end into Orr Street.
At Bridgeton Cross, cross over the whole of the junction and head right along James Street at the far side of the junction. Carry along James Street which becomes King's Drive at the park, turning left at the bend in the road onto a path through Glasgow Green. Go along this path and over the bridge across the River Clyde, crossing over the Sustrans National Cycle Network Route 75 just before the river. Carry straight on at the traffic signals into Polmadie Road.
At the far end of this road, either turn left for a path to Toryglen and Rutherglen (and the unofficial cycle route to Castlemilk and East Kilbride) or turn right (down some steps) to cross Aikenhead Road and go into Dixon Road leading through Govanhill. (To avoid the steps, turn right into Calder Street before reaching the end of Polmadie Road.) An official cycle route, starting at the foot of the steps, heads through Govanhill, with branches for Queen's Park and Bellahouston Park.
