Unofficial Cycle Routes - Beith to Castle Semple Loch

Website by Andy Preece

This short route connects the Ayrshire village of Beith with the nearby Castle Semple Loch using a minor road and a new cycle path, with only a short section on a busy main road. It links into Sustrans National Cycle Network Route 7 which continues to Glasgow.

Starting from the B777 Head Street, as you will be on if you’ve arrived in Beith from the east, head straight into the centre of the village, forking right where the B777 turns left, ending up in Mitchell Street. Turn right into Main Street then left onto the B7049 at Wilson Street. Take the first right into Laigh Road, which becomes Auldlea Road. Follow this road out of the village, forking left at a farm access junction, then right at a stone bridge over a stream.

After a mile or two turn left at the T-junction at the end of the road onto the busy A760. Cross the railway bridge and then pull in to the left at Lochwinnoch station car park entrance. Use the Toucan Crossing to cross the road onto the cycle path to Lochwinnoch. Follow this path along then round to the right. At the end of the path continue along the road straight on, including where the main road turns left, to reach the Castle Semple Loch Visitors’ Centre. It looks like the cycle path is shortly to be extended nearer the Visitors’ Centre shortly in any case.
